BUCS Head 2020

This weekend saw our Senior squads race at BUCS head in Newcastle. Unfortunately due to high winds, the novice divisions had to be cancelled. After a 4 start, both squads headed up to Newcastle, and after rigging the boats everyone boated in good spirits for the first division

First up was the women’s intermediate 8+. They put in an impressive performance, maintaining a very good line (thanks to some very good coxing by Chloe Coomasaru) and coming 10th overall, even in the unfamiliar conditions.

Next, it was the men’s turn in the intermediate 4+ event. We entered two boats both performing well. The first boat came in 9th and the second 15th

Women’s Intermediate 4+

After lunch and the weather taking a turn for the worst with a significant increase in wind and waves, it was time for the second division. The men’s 8+ raced first coming 23rd in the intermediate category.

Finally to round off the day it was the women’s turn in the 4+ intermediate event. After a difficult row to the start line in the adverse conditions, they set off. The first 4+ came 9th and the second 17th.

Overall it was a successful day, and we are really pleased with the significant progress of both squads over the winter months. As always thank you to our coaches John and Jeff who help make everything we do possible. Also a big thank you to the hosting clubs for making the event possible
