Trafford Head 2026

On Saturday 21st February, Trafford Rowing Club hosted the Head of the Bridgewater, welcoming clubs from across the region to race over the 3.2km course on the Bridgewater Canal. MUBC fielded five crews on our home stretch of water, producing a series of strong results across the day.

The day began promisingly, with the sun shining over the canal. Members of MUBC helped marshal the course alongside rowers and parents from other competing clubs, ensuring the racing ran smoothly throughout the day.

Division 2 racing began at 12pm, where we saw both Band 1 and Band 2 of the Op4+ take to the water. Both crews produced strong performances, finishing 2nd and 3rd in their categories, setting a positive tone for the day.

Despite changes in the weather as the rain set in, Division 3 brought the biggest successes of the day. MUBC fielded four crews, including the Op8+, which delivered a standout performance, both winning its category and recording the fastest time of the day – an impressive 10:11.7 for the 3.2 km course. Further on in Op8+ the category came the novice men, placing 4th in their first official race! Soon after came the women’s crews, continuing the successful streak. The W4x− comfortably secured 1st place, while the novice women in the W4+ added another strong result with 2nd place in their category.

With two category wins, multiple podium finishes, and the fastest time of the day, it was a successful outing on home water and valuable racing experience ahead of BUCS Head in Newcastle.
