On the Sunday 28th of May, MUBC’s rowers pounded the pavement alongside 40 000 fellow runners taking part in the 15th Annual Great Manchester Run.
Our University’s ‘Purple wave’ was the largest assembly of students at a running event in the world with over 3000 taking part.
The run began at Portland Street taking us out to Chester Road and Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium.
With thousands of supporters and loud cheering, our quickest runner Bertie (senior’s men’s vice captain) crossed the finish line in only 40’02’’.Our 16 runners ran with different target times in mind though all with Manchester in their hearts.
This run was the largest event to take place since Monday’s suicide bombing. “I Heart Manchester” signs were dotted around the city, while runners and spectators were wearing yellow ribbons and bee symbols in a show of solidarity for the victims of Monday’s attack.
We are very grateful for all your donations. We have raised £450 so far and donating is still possible if you wish to do so here. Our Just Giving page will close in a week’s time (Sunday 4th of June) and funds will then transfer to the Red Cross’ ‘We Love MCR Emergency Fund’.
A special thank you to neighbouring club Liverpool University’s Boat club for their generous donation.
