On the 16th and 17th June the club took nine crews to Reading Regatta in the build up to Women’s Henley and Henley Royal Regatta. Amongst the crews was a women’s 4-, our contingent for the Aspirational Academic 4- at Women’s Henley. The men also raced their contingent for the Temple Challenge Cup. It was a challenging weekend for the club. A clerical error left the club with a tipper without a tow bar but luckily a functioning tipping mechanism – everything you need to successfully tow a trailer down south. Trafford Rowing Club came to our rescue and we were soon on the road – three hours later. After picking up a lightweight Hudson 4- from the Grange School we made it down south without too many hiccups.
Saturday saw our women’s 4+ reach their final. They narrowly lost to Imperial by a canvas. The rest of the crews were knocked out in the first round. The women’s 4- decision to race the Hudson after spending very little time in it went as well as they expected – they lost despite their best efforts.
Senior Women’s 4+: Kat Hunt, Elena PM, Amy Judge, Michaela Sommerova
Sunday turned out to be fairly disappointing for the club – with all crews being knocked out in the first round.
After an eventful but generally disappointing weekend, both squads are looking forward to some intense training before their respective races in Henley.
Senior Men’s 4+: Bertie Gregory, Francis Heylen, Phil Blenkinsop and Sebastian Baylis
The club wants to say a massive thank you to: Trafford Rowing Club, John Impey, Sally and Tim Peachey, The Grange School, Tom Davies and the Robinson Ranger household. Without all of their help we would not have been able to race at Reading Regatta.
